FUNCTION Administer accounting and financial analysis functions for Utah Farm Bureau Federation and subsidiaries to assure accurate financial and membership records. Maximize operational efficiency, safeguard assets, and assist county Farm Bureaus with financial record keeping and procedures.

AUTHORITY

  • Hire, train, and supervise accounting division personnel as provided in the budget.
  • Authorize routine and customary expenditures for division within approved budget and authorities/titles memorandum.
  • Recommend changes in procedures to improve efficiency of funds.
  • Act as treasurer of the Utah Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an accounting system to meet all reporting requirements for management and government agencies for Farm Bureau and non-insurance affiliates.
  • Oversee all segments of the general accounting function, including: Preparation of financial report and results of operations, Reconciliation of all cash accounts, Monthly billings and recoveries from affiliated companies, Coding of income and disbursements, including accounting for income and expenses
  • Maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, preparation of operating and financial statements, reconciliation of all accounts and fixed asset control.
  • Coordinate preparation of the annual operating budget and strategic plan updates for Utah Farm Bureau Federation and all divisions and non-insurance affiliates.
  •  Implement and maintain Utah Farm Bureau Federation investment strategies to maximize yields on investments.
  • Prepare special project cost analyses.
  • Ensure accurate coding for revenue and expense accounts.
  • Direct Utah Farm Bureau banking by reconciling accounts and negotiating lines of credit.
  • Design, implement and manage a system of internal controls.
  • Prepare annual and other fiscal audits; act as liaison with auditors to provide them with materials necessary to complete their audits; manage relations with external auditors, other financial consultants, and advisors.
  • Supervise accounting staff.
  • Insure all federal and state tax/compliance filings are complete, accurate, and are filed on a timely basis.
  • Oversee relationships with Farm Bureau Financial Services leadership and agents.
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop financial reports for the board of directors.
  • Attend and present financials at the board of directors’ meetings.
  • Provide financial analysis for Utah Farm Bureau Federation.
  • Oversee and approve long-term plans to ensure ITcan support the needs of Utah Farm Bureau.
  • Oversee benefit plan administration and payroll.
  • Assist county Farm Bureaus to maintain up-to-date accounting records and systems.
  • Report to chief executive officer outlining division progress, needs, and matters requiring management attention.
  • Timely consultation with chief executive officer on sensitive financial or accounting matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA required
  • Two to four years of experience in accounting or finance, including time in a managerial capacity
  • High standards of professional ethics and conduct
  • Understanding of non-profit accounting and tax laws
  • Proven success in managing and motivating employees
  • Basic understanding of agriculture preferred
  • Strong business knowledge and expertise
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organization, written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starting initiative, reliability, and ability to work well with others
