Senior Tax Accountant

Wilkins and Holman CPAs is a ten-person accounting office based in American Fork, Utah that specializes in small businesses and anything they or their owners might need. We do taxes, bookkeeping, payroll, and consulting for a variety of individuals and businesses. We’ve grown every year since we opened due to consistent customer referrals and great online reviews. Our firm has had extremely low turnover with the only people we’ve lost leaving the workforce to retire or take care of family and the last three secretaries we’ve hired pursuing additional training and moving up into other roles.

We are hiring a full-time tax senior associate who will join our office starting January 3rd. We are looking for someone who has experience with personal and business taxes, especially partnerships and S corporations. You’ll be the first reviewer on returns prepared by others and will prepare more complicated returns. Outside of tax season, you’ll help on bookkeeping, consulting, tax planning, and resolving tax notices. This is a client-facing position and you’ll be responsible for answering client calls or emails and resolving their questions or concerns.

The right candidate would have 2+ years of experience in tax, and experience as a reviewer. A CPA or EA is strongly preferred although we would consider a candidate that is pursuing either. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required although a Master’s in Tax is preferred. An important part of our culture is making sure that any changes that are made during the review are communicated to the preparer and they are taught rather than just being handed a list of changes. As a reviewer, we’d expect you to keep that same mentality and look for opportunities to foster growth in our associates. You’ll report to our two full-time CPAs who will provide the same training and coaching for you.

You’ll enjoy working here if you’re tired of charge hour goals, tracking your time, working 40 hours a week during the off-season, or spending all year on a couple huge tax returns.

You would be expected to put in extra hours during Feb-April 15 and Aug-Oct 15 as needed. We average about 60 hours during the spring tax season but it can be more or less depending on where in the season we are. Aug through Oct are usually 40-50 but can spike close to a deadline. During these times, we frequently work on Saturdays but the office is always closed Sunday and there’s no expectation of working that day. The rest of the year you would work no more than 40 hours, often less since we are fine with leaving once the work is done during the off-season. Generally, Nov and Dec are about half time and the other months are ¾ time, but it varies. Outside of tax season, we provide a lot of flexibility in your schedule and time off.

We are offering $65,000 to $80,000 annual salary depending on experience.

We look forward to meeting you and hope you’ll join our team!
