The IRS has warned of a recent EFIN phishing email. And have share two examples of the latest tax pro-focused phishing emails that are making the rounds right now. These are two actual emails from criminals sent to tax pros like you:

Please remember, identity thieves use many variations of these scams. Phishing emails use threats or urgent messages to trick you into opening a link or attachment that contains malware. Don’t let these threats fool you into quick action!

Protect your clients and your business. Use multi-factor authentication, available on most tax software products. Use strong passwords. Use security software. See Publication 4557, Safeguarding Taxpayer Data, and Publication 5293, Data Theft Resources for Tax Professionals on the IRS website.

Note: the Return Preparer Office (RPO) does send emails that are signed by Carol Campbell.  Whenever possible,  you should access your PTIN or EFIN account directly from the IRS website.
