Level 5 focuses on improving the auditor's ability to lead more complex audit engagements with non-routine transactions and events that influences the auditor's ability to evaluate proper financial statement presentation and disclosure, as well as potentially impact the auditor's report and other required communications.

Objectives:

* Explain tips and best practices for improving the profitability, efficiency and quality of larger engagements * Describe effective and value-added required communications with client management, governance and others related to fraud, internal control deficiencies, and other matters * Discuss accounting, financial reporting and auditing issues related to complex transactions such as non-readily marketable financial instruments, impaired long-lived assets, contingencies, going concern uncertainty and other matters

* Independence under SEC and Government Auditing Standards regulations: Increased stringency in independence rules * Desired traits of experienced seniors and supervisors: Focus on efficiency, profitability, creating problem-solving and transitioning to be a firm leader * Fraud in smaller and mid-size environments: Evaluating the cause and the effect of real-life fraud cases and required communications with client management, governance and others * Communicating internal control deficiencies: What, when and how to communicate internal control matters identified on the audit * Auditing complex investment types: Determining fair value for non-readily marketable securities, using the work of a specialist and using Service Organization Control Reports * Auditing impairment of long-lived assets: Indicators of impairment and recoverability testing for both tangible and intangible long-lived assets * Auditing contingencies and going concern uncertainty: Accounting and reporting litigation, claims and assessments, evaluating legal letter responses, and the auditor's responsibility for evaluating the impact of going concern uncertainty * Coaching staff to stay on the right track: Motivating teams for engagement success, engaging in difficult conversations and giving constructive feedback
